I have written many articles sharing my love of travel, nature, creative, self-reliant and alternative ways of living and my words have appeared in a variety of publications, both on-line and in print: National Geographic Traveller, Countryman Magazine, Bird Watching, JUNO, Plants are Magic, Canal Boating Times, Transitions Abroad, Practical Motorhome, Spain Magazine, Rosetta Stone, Living Abroad, Babyworld, Vegetarian Magazine, Permaculture Magazine. My travel column appeared in Mumsense magazine for three years.
In addition to articles my first book Tales from a Travelling Mum is all about the travels I took with my daughter during the first two years of her life and the result is a combination of tales and practical advice for travelling with young children. Right now I am working on a second non-fiction book, a travel and nature-inspired memoir.
I also write fiction and several of my short stories have been published in magazines, one was chosen for inclusion in an anthology and one even won a UK short story competition! These happenings inspired me to self-publish my first collection of short stories under the title: The Times We Had. One day soon I hope to finish my first novel, Forgiving Summer, which tells the story of one woman's desire to escape the confines of her conventional life in the UK in favour of a more authentic life on a Greek island.
My first children's book Winston the Worried Whale was published in 2015. Illustrated by the wonderful Heidi Rivolta, we were both thrilled with the positive reaction to Winston (please read some reviews below) and have since worked on several more projects together. My Character Education Cardswere published in 2016 and in 2017 there will be a second Winston resource as well as a set of cards to stimulate talking between parents and children.
Another children's project close to me heart is a series of books I am writing for vegetarian and vegan children. As a vegan parent myself, my hope is that Celandine the Vegetarian will enable other parents to start the conversation about the reasons for their chosen lifestyle, as well as prove a good friend for young children embarking on this journey.
I am passionate about using poetry as a way to spread meaningful messages and raise awareness of important issues. You can listen to some of my readings by clicking the images below, including one of my vegan-inspired poems 'It Started with an Ant' featured on the VIVA! August 2017 podcast.
